US President Donald Trump denied information that appeared in the media that the US authorities are planning to suspend the collection of duties on imported goods for three months against the background of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed officials, reported that the Trump administration allegedly plans to suspend the collection of import duties for three months in order to provide financial support to American companies amid the coronavirus pandemic. At the same time, before that, Trump said that the United States is not considering the idea of lifting duties on goods from abroad to mitigate the consequences of the coronavirus outbreak.

Rating Agency S&P Global said that in 2020, the world economy would face a large-scale recession due to the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, experts predicted an uncontrolled recession in the US.

It is worth recalling that on January 15 the US and China signed first part of the trade agreement, under which Washington still retained duties of 25% on Chinese goods with a volume of about 250 billion dollars, along with 7.5% on goods with a volume of 120 billion dollars.

The agreement stipulates that China will buy $ 75 billion worth of American industrial goods, $50 billion worth of energy, $40 billion worth of agricultural products, and another $35-40 billion in the next two years will be spent by Beijing on services.

Therefore, in Washington, they expect to bring the imbalance in trade with China, which totaled hundreds of billions of dollars, to an "honest" denominator.
